The next Winter Olympics are scheduled to held from February 7 to February 23, 2014 in Sochi, Krasnodar Krai, Russia. This will be the first time that the Russian Federation will host the Winter Olympics, making this the first time the Olympics have taken place in the Region since the Moscow 1980 Summer Games.

Modeled after past successful SafeGames Project initiatives, SafeGames 2014 will use a wide array of outreach and promotional strategies to reach the millions expected to attend the Olympics.

SafeGames’ staff and volunteers will distribute information, referrals, and incentives, including Sochi SafeCity Guides, at high traffic pedestrian corners, special events, and In clubs, bars, and hotels. A cornerstone of SafeGames 2014 will be the promotion of evidence based public health and public safety interventions, including special efforts for women, alcohol and drug users.

SafeGames 2014 will be a collaboration of non-governmental organizations, advocacy groups and private business. Together, they will combine their specialized skills to educate and inform people about behavior risks associated with drug use, alcohol consumption, and sex; and to provide them with strategies and information to reduce those risks.
