History
The SafeGames Project had its origins in 2002, when founder Luciano Colonna organised a consortium of non-governmental and governmental organisations to stage the first SafeGames to coincide with the Salt Lake City Olympics. By 2010, after mounting a successful campaign during the 21st Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, the SafeGames Project was formally established to oversee the staging of SafeGames events and campaigns worldwide.
Our Vancouver SafeGames 2010 campaign was a public health and safety advocacy campaign designed to reach the half-million visitors in Vancouver for the Winter Olympic Games. A strategic partnership of more than forty local and international organisations participated. The key elements of SafeGames 2010 included sexual health promotion, drug and alcohol education, public safety, and a targeted awareness campaign spotlighting the problem of violence against women. Our strategies included street and site outreach, media advocacy, an event series, the distribution of a wide variety of branded incentives, and a website, www.safegames2010.com, designed to enhance the SafeGames campaign with frank, accurate and up-to date information.
With a reputation as a growing social business with expertise in carrying out innovative health and safety interventions, the SafeGames Project finds itself increasingly in demand to assist organisations, coalitions and communities around the world to deal with public health challenges.
In addition to the United Kingdom, future SafeGames Project campaigns are scheduled to take place in Brazil, Poland, Russia, Western Europe and the US.
